You need to apply Form 49A (Application for allotment of PAN), either online or offline. For NRI assessee, it would be needed to provide Copy of Identity proof and address proof, which should be duly attested by “Apostille” (in respect of countries which are signatories to the Hague Convention of 1961) or by the Indian Embassy or High Commission or Consulate in the country where the applicant is located or authorised officials of overseas branches of Scheduled Banks registered in India. Hope you are aware about that PAN ward / status allotted on the basis of residential status, Is there any space / option for Residential status? If no than how can you separate it?
DO NOT FEEL SHY TO REBOOT THE SYSTEM, WHEN ITS NEED UPGRADATION.

Dear Mr. Seetharaman ji
Form 49AA is for citizen outside India or company, entity registered outside India. Since NRI is an Indian Citizen, it would be required to Apply PAN in form 49A. No confusion...
