Name gets masked while making online payment

30 June 2018 This year, when one fills out PAN and other details to make online tax payment with Challan 280 using IT site, the verification page appears showing the "masked" name as per IT database. There is no option to see or edit the name, even when making the payment through the bank. So the "masked" name gets carried forward into the challan and receipt issued by the bank also. Will there be any problems or delays in the payment getting posted correctly in Form 26AS (normally it takes 3 days)? In any case it is another case of shoddy work, that too in in such an important matter affecting millions of taxpayers.

30 June 2018 Even earlier it was not possible to edit the name. Name will always be picked from the name as per IT database against the alloted PAN. Amount will get get credited against the PAN in 26AS without any delay but you can submit return immediately after depositing the TAX. No need to wait for 26AS to get updated.

30 June 2018 Yes, name was not editable earlier also. But the full and correct name used to be a) Displayed on payment website b)Subsequently recorded on the Challan after payment was made successfully. Same thing is happening now also, but the challan should have the full and correct name, as it is basically meant to be a receipt for the taxpayer. Masked name appearing on the challan is meaningless and confusing. The credit has still not been updated on Form 26 AS, so far, though it normally comes within 72 hours. I am getting a bad feeling that this is another massive goof up by IT, but will post an update soon, in either case. Appreciate the prompt response from Shri Sanjay.

01 July 2018 My Form 26 has got updated correctly today (on 4th day after making payment). All is well. So we just have to make sure that the PAN and Assessment year are entered correctly.
