What is Fair Market Value ? To calculate LTCG, whether Cost of acquisition is to be deducted from sale consideration or Fair market value is to be deducted ?

For mutual fund units, mostly cost of acquisition is deducted from sale consideration to arrive at capital gains.
In case of equity based funds purchased before 31.01.2018, the COA is FMV as of 31.01.2018 or COA , whichever higher.
