E-filing of service tax return st-3

Plz let me know is it mandatory to file ST-3 Return manually to deptt. after filing online as there is no provision to sign the return digitally while uploading/ filing it online !!!!

There is no clarity whether any physical copy is required to be submitted to service tax office once the ST-3 return has been successfully uploaded on ACES.
On experience it is found that certain officer's ask for hard copies whereas few other's don’t ask for any physical copy at all.
