This query is : Resolved

22 July 2009 Whether itis necessary to disclose the stipend income earned u/sec 10(16) in the ITR? And if yes underb which category
Is there any case

22 July 2009 Until and unless your total income exceeds the basic exemption limit you dont have to file return.

If the same is exceeding and no TDS has been deducted then you should have paid Advance Tax and now you have to pay Interest on late payment of Tax.

The income will be shown under the head Income from other Sources.

22 July 2009 Yes it is necessary to disclose stipend under fully exempted income in the Income tax return.
The reason is in the verification part of the return, the assessee is signing after saying that the information given in the return is true and those in the schedules to the return are correct and complete.
There is no case law regarding disclosure of stipend in ITR.
