This query is : Resolved

23 January 2016 Dear All,
Please tell me the taxability of the maturity of the Medical insurance premium paid under section 80D of the income Tax Act,1961.
Secondly, there is difference between Medical Allowance and Medical Premium paid under section 80D of the Income Tax Act,1961, but I referred some articles where it is mentioned that, Medical Allowance is taxable but if the assessee gets reimbursement of medical bills, then deduction under section 80D is availed. Im confused why people are mixing Medical Insurance premium and Medical Allowance. Please help me out..

04 October 2021 1. Not Taxable.
2. Medical allowance is part of salary perquisite. It is fixed amount paid every month. Hence it is taxable, when paid above exempted limit. While medical insurance is the claim received when actually expended.
