my gross income from salary is 5.4 lacs....and exemption u/s 10 is around 75,000...so my taxable salary comes to Rs. 4,65,000... and have no other source of income not even interest. I went to file my return on 27th...but the officials sitting there refused to accept my form..saying "my income is less than 5 lacs"..but i wanted to file the return as the new rule only exempts filing of return but doesn't prohibits filing of return. But there was no one listen to my plea...and ultimatley i was standing there helpless and had to return without submitting my return.. I want to take this matter furthur...so that the officials sitting over the collection centres stop harrasing the assesse's in future..what line of action shoud i take? can i get any help on this from experts of this club..?!!

Govt has come out with an order which is reproduced below.

ORDER [F.NO. 142/09/2011-SO(TPL)],
Return of income - Exemption from requirement of furnishing return of income for A.Y. 2011-12 where income does not exceed Rs. 5 lakhs -
The Central Board of Direct Taxes had exempted a certain class of persons from the requirement of furnishing a Return of income under sub-section (1) of section 139 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 for the assessment year 2011-12, vide Notification SO No. 1439 (E), dated 23-6-2011, subject to the conditions specified in the Notification. 2. It has come to the notice of the Board that in some Income-tax offices. Returns of Income are not being received by the staff on the ground that an individual with less than Rs. 5 lakhs of income is not required to furnish his return of income. 3. Necessary instructions may be issued to the officers and staff concerned to accept Returns of Income from those taxpayers who wish to file their Return of income even if they satisfy the conditions of the above-mentioned notification.
Pl show this to the IT officials and make an attempt to file. If again failed try online filing.

sir, i tried explaining the said notice to the officials..but they still refused..and instead of accepting..they started yelling saying do what ever you wish to but we wont accept...and i dont wish to file online...and infact why should i.. its my privelege to decide whether i file online or offline..also here its not about filing online or offline..its about their attitude which is creating trouble..i wasted entire day trying to convince them to accept my return but all in vain..so pls guide and help..
