This query is : Resolved

01 July 2016 As an individual can i claim medical expenses for general checkup as exemption in ITR4. if so, hoow much i can claim as exemption and under which section..

02 July 2016 Dear Reddy Sir, If you are filing ITR4 then you're an individual with business income. in this case you can directly claim the medical expenses as an expense in the p&l a/c.

02 July 2016 A deduction of Rs 5000 would be allowed under Section 80D for payment of preventive
health checkup of either the individual himself or his family members which include parents and
dependent children.
It is important to be noted that Rs. 5000 is the maximum total deduction allowed. This deduction is
not per person but in total. So if a person pays any amount for preventive health checkup of
himself + dependent children + parents, the gross total deduction allowed would be Rs. 5000.

So you can claim Deduction Under Section 80D under deduction part of ITR4.

02 July 2016 Please see section 80D(2)(a).
