Mr. X is suffering from severe disability. He files his return after the due date (ie. after 31/07/2010). Will he still be eligible to claim a deduction of Rs. 1 lac in his income tax return? (He has also furnished the certificate of the disability received from the Doctor, along with the return)

Which is the assessment year. Generally, income tax act does not restrict, an assessee calaiming deduction under section 80U,to file the return of income on or before the due date.

Yes, eligible to claim 80U in case of belated return also, subject to the satisfaction of the other conditions mentioned in the section.
