ONE OF OUR PRIVATE LIMITED COMPANY HELD ITS AGM ON 09/09/2011 (THIRUVONAM-PUBLIC HOLIDAY FOR KERALA). IS IT A PUBLIC HOLIDAY AS PER SEC 166 OF THE COMPANIES ACT, 1956.

Yes 9/9/2011 was a public holiday for the purpose of section 166 of the companies act,1956 since that day was declared as a public holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act,1881.

Agree with Mr. B.Chackrapani... public holiday refer to the holiday under Negotiable instruments Act, 1881. If the AGM is held on this day..it would be taken as a default.
