Can anyone let me know whether VAT registration No. obtained for starting a trading business in one's own sole proprietory concern name can be used /transferred for the same person's other business ? & if the earlier sole prop concern is closed can the same VAT number be used for the new concern for the same dealer?

Under MVAT Act, a individual can have only one TIN No. in Maharashtra, he can carryon any No. of prop. businesses or branches at a or many places in Maharashtra. Same No. can be used for his other prop. businesses.
If old concern is closed and RC is not cancelled, the same TIN will continue for his new prop. concern. Only he has to inform the Regi. section regarding change in name of business, commodities or place of his business.

If in the previous case the dealer files return of income in his prop concern name say XYZ, can the MVAT TIN of this concern "XYZ" be used by him for his other concern "ABC" or else he has to obtain a different TIN for his other bus concern ABC & altogether file a diff return of income for ABC? (He being a sole prop in both bus concern)

Under Income Tax return is always submitted in individual name of prop. but not in trade name, for income from all the sources including income from all prop. businesses. TIN No. obtained by individual for his prop. business, same can be used for his all prop. business/es run in Maharashtra, only intimation is to be submitted to registration branch where from the RC was obtained and if the new business is started at other place then a to the registration branch of that jurisdiction.

Thanks. But it is not clear if the old bus is started from a diff place whether new registration is reqd or an intimation to that effect to the new registration branch is sufficient?
