Please help me out on the following matter : This question relates to cement industry for assam/meghalay VAt
Whether VAT is payable if cement bags are given to the party on sample basis & recognise as sales promotion expenses @Re1/- bag in the books of accounts.
Yes, Sample is attracts to Vat provided it should be for consideration. Some times sales takes place by way of free gift without consideration, buy one and get one free etc. and these transactions never come under the ambit of vat. In your case ,I seem it is free and can be removed against retail invoice without any vat.
