For the assessment year 2013-14 My deceased client's Wife got refund cheque on behalf of deceased husband on 25.07.2014 for Rs.7500/-The details of Return filed and Refund cheque received by deceased client's Spouse is as under My client filed Income Tax Return on 27.07.2013 with quoting wrong Bank account number 2-Got refund Cheque on 25.07.2014 by deceased Spouse 3-My client was died on 02.04.2014 What procedure is to be followed to get refund by deceased spouse(Wife) Query is for--1-Wrong quoting of Bank account Number in Income Tax Return, 2-Assessee has died on 02.04.2014(Leaving behind Wife & Two major Male sons) What formalities have to be fulfiled by deceased wife to get refund?

Dear anonymous, Greetings Good evening, Since wrong account number was quoted in the return and the refund has been processed, an intimation u/s 143(1) also would have been generated. If the return has been filed online, i hope which is for sure, whoever has filed the return should opt for the option of refund reissue request in Income tax site. There details regarding 143(1) is asked such as communique no and refund sequence no, the same needs to be provided. In the next screen the site asks u whether u want to reset ur A/c no and details regarding the same. By inserting the correct a/c no you could ask the I.T department online itself If 143(1) is not raised then a request for intimation u/s 143(1) can be made online

In case return is filed manually an application should be made to the AO enclosing the copy of refund cheque for reissue of refund cheque mentioning correct account number and if filed online, submit request for reissue of refund by quoting correct account number.

you can file request for reissue of refund of cheque with return copy and death certificate of assessee and new a/c number and name of person in which name you want the refund.
or in on line return filing you can request by online.

Yes,Contact your jurisdictional AO along with relevant proof(legal heir certificate). After verification the Jurisdictional AO approves the legal heir claim, refund will be routed to your bank account.
