Under Copyright act 1957 is a statutory right to stop others copying or exploiting author works in various other ways without permission. Copyright typically lasts for the duration of the author life plus another 70 years.

Patent
The exclusive right, granted by the government, to make use of an invention or process for a specific period of time, usually 14 years.
