A Doctor attached to a hospital has received TDS certificate for Rs. 60,000/-for income earned (Rs 6 lakhs) from a hospital FY 2009-2010. However, Doctor has received only Rs.3 lakhs in FY 2009-2010. As per the books maintained by him (on cash basis)balance of Rs.3 lakhs is received in FY 2010-2011 for which TDS deducted by hospital in FY 2009-2010 as hospital follows mercantile method of accounting.
Can Doctor claim TDS for amount of Rs 3 lakhs received in FY 2009-2010 and Rs.3 lakhs received in 2010-2011 relevant to AY 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 respectively ?

Considering the new system of allowing tax credits to the assessees, the assessee shall have to apply for the entire credit of Rs. 60,000.00 in the year in which it was deducted, i.e. in your case FY 2009-2010 AY 2010-2011.
