Tax on right issue

This query is : Resolved

30 April 2012 Hi, can someone please help me with what is the tax regulation for shares acquired under right issue? Will it come under Capital Gains? If i sell the right shares within one year, will it lead to short term capital gains tax ?

30 April 2012 Yes, sale of Right Shares,
within one year from the issue date,
leads to Short Term Capital Gains.

30 April 2012 Cost of acquisition - To acquire shares under right issue some money must have been paid, said paid money will be treated as the cost of acquisition of the right shares.

Of course it will come under capital gain.

At the time of sell - if sold within one year then short term capital gain and after one year through stock exchange then long term capital gain.

30 April 2012 Thanks Paras
