why financial year starts from 1st april only?

It has been collectively decided that Financial year will start from 1st April to 31st March of the next year in order to keep uniformity with respect to the Books of Accounts prepared and maintained. Also it helps for easy comparison between peer group.
The FY may be different for different Regulatory authority of the country.
