Can a subsidiary co give guarantee for loan taken by holding company?

Yes . Provided The directors of subsidiary company do not hold any shares in holding company or is not directors of holding company. otherwise Section 185 will be attracted
Further as per the recent notification dated 05-06-2015 SECTION 185 is not applicable to private company subject to certain conditions.
