Slab Rate

This query is : Resolved

14 February 2009 Hi Madam/Sir,

My doubt is that in IT Book they have given that

1).senior Citizen means whose Age is 65years or more at any time during the PY.
2).For resident woman also they have given that whose age is below 65years during the PY.

My query is that In a year both can be possible i.e.below 65 and equal to 65 years then which slab rate is applicable?

14 February 2009 Dear Sir, you are very much clear yourself by virtue of first provision you mentioned. When there is an assessee who has crossed 65 at any time during the previous year, he/she becomes senior citizen and accordingly Senior citizen slabs are applied. In any other case, you will apply the woman slabs (If a woman is assessee) or normal rates, as the case may be.

15 February 2009 Treated as Senior Citizen
