I am currently living on a rented premises. I have a commercial shop. I wanted to ask whether can I take benefit u/s 80GG for the amount of the rent paid. I am having a business income & so question of HRA does not arise.

Yes, you can claim deduction u/s 80GG. As you don't have any residential house property, you can take 80GG benefit as the section specifically mentioned about the rent paid for the premises used for own residence. However, the rental income from commercial shop has to be shown as income from HP in your IT return.
