09 December 2018 i have my cop from aug 2017. i didnt register my firm then as i didnt start practise. now i intend to start my own practise .do i have to take approval of the firm name (FORM 117 followed by FORM 18 ) even if the firm name is "MYNAME & CO.". Reg.190 states that only intimation is required to start practice in own name.
pls advice.

10 December 2018 If you are holding COP then you could have started practice in your own name in individual capacity (without using any firm name) w.e.f Aug 2017 itself. Firm name is not mandatory to practice, but COP is. However if you wish to have a Firm Name for your proprietorship concern then you will have to take Approval for the same in Form 117 and then get it registered in Form 18.
If you have a registered Firm Name you could display it on your Visiting Card/Letterheads/Signboards, without getting approval you can use your own name only. But to practice COP is a must.
