Purchase of software licence

25 December 2014 I have seen an invoice of software purchase during my work and found both ST and VAT imposed on the transaction. Can purchase of software licence be liable to Service tax and VAT both?...if yes, then the software is a service or product?

25 December 2014 The issue is under consideration at various high courts and so the seller charges both service tax and vat to be on safer side.
