01 March 2010 Hi Friends! A very Happy Holi to all of you.

I have cleared whole CA in Ist attempt (CA Final Nov 09). I have taken articleship in a mediocre CA Firm. Therefore i didn't get good exposure during my articleship.I am still left with 6 months articleship. After clearing CA Final i got call from 4 of the top 20 CA firms. But i didn't join them as i got a chance to work with a good company on secondment basis. But they have not given me a profile that they had to. I am not at all satisfied with my profile. My profile doesn't require you to be a CA student. Even a graduate can do it. Now i am thinking of going back to those CA firms to pursue my remaining articleship.

After completing our CA, when we go out for a job, what do companies see in a candidate-attempts taken or exposure during articleship? Please help me out , i am very very confused what to do ? Should i stay here so that when i go for a job i get benefit of working in a co. for 6 months or as my profile is not at all good i won't get benefit & i should switch over to a reputed CA firm. Please reply?

01 March 2010 In the long term, it is always your individual skills, attitude and knowledge that matters. In the immediate short term, factors like your number of attempts could bother. Good CA firms do look at the number of attempts and the exposure you had in your training session. A six month job with a company would not be considered in your advantage since six months is a period too short to consider it as industry exposure.

In the initial stage of your career, work for getting behind the quality stuff. Stay with a firm or company consistently for 3+ years as this shows your stability with an organisation.
