26 June 2013 Kindly advice me about the quantum of penalty that can be imposed for the service tax half yearly return for the F Y 2007-08 filed on 09/09/2011.

27 June 2013 maximum late fee of Rs 20000.
but must be filed with late fee otherwise penalty may be on basis of not providing data or evasion of tax.

01 August 2013 The penalty provision of Rs.20000/- was introduced in the finance bill sec 70 (1) in the year 2011. So, for earlier period the maximum penalty was R.2000/= only. This query relates to 2007-08.
