15 October 2010 Dear Sir/Madam,

A and B are partners sharingb profits in the ratio of 4:1. A surrenders 1/4 share and B surrenders 1/2 of his share in favour of C, a new partner, Sacrificing ratio of A and B will be___

Ans: 2:1

Pease tell how to Calculate

16 October 2010 The answer is correct.
The sacrificing ratio is itself calculated from their sacrifice i.e.
A - 1/4 of 4/5 = 1/5 or 2/10
B - 1/2 of 1/5 = 1/10
So the ratio is 2/10:1/10 = 2:1

Also, if think from other point of view let the total profit be 5000. Then as per New Ratio share will be >
A - 4000, B- 1000.
Now Sacrifice of A is 1/4 of 4000 = 1000.
Sacrifice of B is 1/2 of 1000 = 500.

So sacrificing ratio is 1000:500 or 2:1.

Regards
