As per para 1.2.1 of Secretarial Standard-2 on General Meetings issued by ICSI, "Notice in writing of every Meeting should be given to every Member of the company." Also it is clearly mentioned in para 1.2.7 of said Standard that "No business should be transacted at a Meeting if Notice in accordance with this Standard has not been given."
But para 1.2.5 of the said Standard says "Consent for shorter Notice may be given before or at the Meeting." ##Shorter Notice: The General meeting may be called after giving shorter notice in Form 22A prescribed under the Companies (Central Government) General Rules & Forms 1956 - by all the shareholders of the company by way of consent.
