As an articled clerk (also known as an articled assistant) under the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), your working conditions should align with the guidelines set by the ICAI. Here's how you can address issues related to excessive working hours and unfair treatment:
### Key Points to Address:
1. **ICAI Guidelines for Articled Clerks:** - ICAI has specific regulations concerning the working hours and conditions for articled clerks. - Generally, the work hours should be reasonable, and you should be given appropriate time for study and personal time.
2. **ICAI’s Rules and Regulations:** - **Regulation 46** of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988, outlines the working hours and conditions for articled assistants. - It specifies that articled assistants should not be overburdened and should be allowed time for study and exams.

They have grievance redressal mechanisms. - **Direct Contact:** Reach out directly to the ICAI’s Professional Development Committee or the Examination Department, as they oversee articleship and related issues. - **Online Complaint:** ICAI has an online complaint mechanism where you can lodge a grievance about your working conditions.
4. **Steps to Take:** - **Document Issues:** Keep a record of your working hours, days worked, and any communication related to your work conditions. - **Internal Resolution:** Before escalating to ICAI, try to resolve the issue internally by discussing it with your employer or the senior management at your firm. - **Lodge a Complaint:** - **Email or Write to ICAI:** You can send a detailed complaint regarding your working conditions to the ICAI. - **Call ICAI:** Contact the ICAI’s regional office or helpline to seek guidance and further assistance.
