Hope all is well with you. I would like to import samples (FMCG product fruit beverages) and I would like to know few things 1. Do I need import license/ie code to import the samples 2. I have seen in some articles that till 5000 rs there is no duty on samples import and my questions how the custom agents will come to know about the product value. is it through the mrp described on the pet bottles (in my case). I would be importing fruit juice in pet bottles as samples and which will have a weight of around 20-30 kgs and in no. of bottles it will around 20 of size 300 ml and 500 ml. Govt allows duty free sample import up to Rs 3 L by exporters New Delhi, Dec 7 (PTI) The government today tripled the limit for duty free import of samples by all exporters to Rs 3,00,000, a move that will help traders innovate their product lines.
Earlier only gems and jewellery sector was allowed duty free import of up to Rs 3,00,000 and, for the rest the limit was Rs 1,00,000.
"All the exporters will be able to import duty free samples up to Rs 3,00,000," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a public notice.
The move will help exporters in product innovation and diversification, Fieo Director General Ajay Sahai said.
Generally, exporters are given samples by their buyers for replication. As per the latest data, India''s merchandise exports rose 21.3 per cent to USD 18 billion in October over the year-ago period.
DUTY FREE IMPORT OF SAMPLES UP TO RS. 300000(THREE LAKH) IS PERMITTED FOR ALL EXPORTERS AS PER TERMS AND CONDITION OF CUSTOM NOTIFICATION NO. 154 DTD. 13.07.1994 AS AMENDED FROM TIME TO TIME.
