05 October 2014 Dear Sir,

Can a person holding a Certificate of Practice issued by ICAI allowed to apply for membership of Bar Council?

The purpose is to continue holding Certificate of Practice of ICAI and not to practice as a lawyer.

Is there any restriction in becoming a member of Bar council and continue to hold Certificate of Practice issued by ICAI, kindly let me know.

05 October 2014 Bar Council Rules don't allow practice of any other profession. kindly refer Section VII of Chapter II of Bar Council of India Rules

Further, you may refer to Supreme Court judgment in the case of Dr.) Haniraj L. Chulani Vs. Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa [1996] INSC 505 (8 April 1996)

The judgment is available at http://www.advocatekhoj.com/library/judgments/index.php?go=1996/april/27.php
