one of my assessees running an educational institution is unable to preserve the application forms received from the students at the time of admission. The question for consideration is
i) is it compulsory for an educational institution to maintain even student application forms
ii) if so, what will happen if the incometax department order a scrutiny
iii) how to face scrutiny in such cases
substantiate your views with the help of caselaws, if possible

1. Student's application form is a prime document but for income tax point of view; it is not so. . . 2. With the attendance register and fee collected accordingly; one can prove the number of students studying in the school. . . 3. So you need not worry. However; keep ready the list of students so that the moment it is asked; the same can be submitted. . . This is enough. Don't worry at all. .
