08 March 2010 my friend is getting a fixed LTA every month from his employer.which is completely taxable. however if he has undertaken a trip in the P.Y. can he claim the exemption u/s 10(5). if yes what should the procedure be.

09 March 2010 Yes. he can claim exemption by keeping the necessary proof available with him.

At the time of filing the Income tax refund, he can show it as non taxable income and claim income tax refund for the eligible amount.
