02 August 2024 As of the latest updates, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) provides guidelines on leave entitlements for articled assistants preparing for exams, including the Professional Competence Examination (PCE) and other exams. Here's a detailed breakdown:

### **ICAI Regulations on Leave for Examination Preparation**

1. **ICAI Regulations for Leave**:
- The ICAI allows articled assistants to take leave for exam preparation, but the specifics can be governed by the regulations and the discretion of the principal.

2. **Leave Entitlement**:
- **General Rule**: Under the ICAI regulations, articled assistants are entitled to a maximum of 7 days of leave for examination preparation.
- **Additional Leave**: The leave taken for examination preparation is generally counted within the total leave entitlement. If more leave is needed, it may be subject to the principal's discretion and the firm's policy.

3. **3 Months Leave**:
- **Unusual Duration**: Granting 3 months of leave specifically for exam preparation is not typical and would exceed the usual limits provided by ICAI regulations. Typically, a maximum of 7 days is considered sufficient for exam preparation, and any additional leave would be at the discretion of the principal and may affect the total duration of the articleship.

### **ICAI Regulations and Notifications**

For the most accurate and up-to-date details, refer to the relevant ICAI notifications and regulations. As of the latest updates, the relevant regulations can be found in the ICAI's "Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988" under:

- **Regulation 57**: Relates to the leave entitlement for articled assistants.
- **ICAI’s Official Website**: The most current information can be accessed directly on the ICAI’s official website under the "Regulations" or "Student" sections.

**ICAI Regulation Link**:
You can check the ICAI regulations through the following link for the most current and detailed information:
[ICAI Regulations](https://www.icai.org/)

### **Summary**

- **Leave Entitlement**: Generally, up to 7 days of leave is granted for exam preparation according to ICAI regulations.
- **Extended Leave**: Any leave beyond this, such as 3 months, is not standard and would need special approval from the principal and might impact the articleship duration.

For precise guidance, especially if there have been recent updates or if special circumstances apply, consult with your ICAI regional office or the HR department at your firm.
