what is the difference between 'presume' and 'assume'....

23 April 2009 An assumption is not drawn from evidence; it is a hypothesis {my assumption can be tested by looking at the dictionary}.

A presumption implies a basis in evidence
{the legal presumption of innocence}.

Assume suppose to be the case, without proof.
presume suppose that something is the case on the basis of probability; take for granted that something exists or is the case.
