21 April 2012 My father who was a govt employee recently expired and my mother who is a house wife is getting a monthly pension of about 21000 per month. Is she liable to pay income tax and file her income tax returns.

21 April 2012 Yes she has to file her return showing the income under the head "Income from other Sources". She can claim the deduction u/s.57 in respect of such income.

21 April 2012 YOUR MOTHER INCOME IS TAXABLE UNDER HEAD INCOME FROM OTHER SOURCES.
DEDUCTION U/S 57.
33.33% OF SUCH INCOME
OR RS 15000
(WHICH EVER IS LESS)

21 April 2012 agree with CA Praveen Singh...
