If you have forgotten your e-filing password and do not have access to previous ITR-V or any other recovery options, you can still reset your password using the following steps:
### Reset Password Using Aadhaar OTP or EVC
1. **Visit the e-Filing Portal**: - Go to the official Income Tax e-filing portal: [https://www.incometax.gov.in](https://www.incometax.gov.in)
2. **Click on Login**: - On the login page, click on the “Forgot Password?” link.
3. **Enter PAN and Captcha**: - Enter your PAN number and the Captcha code, then click on “Continue”.
4. **Select Aadhaar OTP or EVC**: - If you do not have access to previous return details or the registered email/mobile number, select the option to reset the password using Aadhaar OTP or Electronic Verification Code (EVC).
5. **Authenticate Using Aadhaar OTP**: - If your Aadhaar is linked with your PAN, you can choose the option “Using Aadhaar OTP”. You will receive an OTP on your Aadhaar-registered mobile number. Enter the OTP to reset your password. - If you choose “Using EVC”, you can generate an EVC through your bank account, demat account, or through the bank ATM. Enter the EVC received to reset your password.
### Contact Income Tax Helpline
If you are unable to reset your password using the above methods, you can contact the Income Tax e-filing helpdesk for assistance.
1. **Call the Helpline**: - Contact the Income Tax e-filing helpdesk
2. **Email the Helpdesk**: - Send an email to [email protected] explaining your issue and providing details like your PAN, registered email address, and registered mobile number.
3. **Request Manual Reset**: - Request for a manual reset of your password. You may need to provide identity verification documents.
### Additional Tips
- **Update Aadhaar Details**: Ensure your Aadhaar details are up to date and linked with your PAN. - **Check Spam Folder**: If you have emailed the Income Tax Department and not received a response, check your email spam/junk folder. - **Re-register PAN**: If your PAN was registered only for viewing Form 26AS and not for filing returns, consider re-registering on the e-filing portal with updated contact details.
By following these steps, you should be able to reset your e-filing password and access your account.
