I need suggestion regarding my career

27 September 2013 I am an qualified BCOM Graduate, passout year 2010. Currently working in Infosys BPO, Chennai.I completed CA CPT in Dec,2008. Due to some financial imbalances, i discontinued my IPCC. Now am interetesd to continue and want to give IPCC attempt in May,2014. No option for coaching, so want to do self study. Kindly advise me how to utilise my time and how to prepare for exams.

27 September 2013 Self study is better than any coaching. Coaching is short term for passing but self study lasts longer and helpful in future. Do smart study for passing. Dont go for many books to dig wide but go for one book (conceptually stong) and dig it deeply to understand. Know the concept and how to apply the concept is the focus to pass. There are time management and presentation skills which is utmost required in passing CA apart from conceptual knowledge with application. IPCC is generraly at working knowledge level and not expert level. For IPCC only, I would recommend buy Padhuka's IPCC books (Accounts, AS, Costing & Auditing. To read law subject, follow any of MP Vijay Kumar's/ Munish Bhandari's Law book. For IT & SM, CA study material good enough with Reliance's past year ca exam Questions & answers...For taxation subject, Vinod Gupta book is recommended (else Vinod Singhania Taxmannn publication which is considered lengthy but Best in terms of any books in India). Last but not least, it is CONCEPTUAL understnading with apllication which does matter and not by practicing many number of Q&As. Some points to note: First understand concepts using WH- questions i.e. why, what, how etc for the topic, then read the concepts (if dont understand then go to question and read its solution then link it to concept so that you can remeber concept). Secondly, make a summarised not what are the contents in the topic and by looking at it you can remember the topic entirely. So prepare 2-5 pager topic wise summary after each topic study.
Thirdly while attempting problem,(note the requirement of examiner and how to link with which chapter which concept) and then visualise what should be the treatment as per concept to this problem and then check with the answers given. If any deviation, mark a red. Next time once full study of book, re attempt the same questions with visualisation and checking. Fourthly, time management is breaking each question with times available. Per question how much time should I take else skip to others easy questions which I would first finish. Try to answer ATLEAST 80% of exam paper. regarding presenation, read RTP, suggested answer and text book, how they have analysed the theory and how they have presented (study the patter and usage of wording) then over time you will be master how to use such wording, interpretation and pattern of answering...Finally if you have any question please get in touch with me by mailing to ca.amulya@gmail.com or ask me in the query section of my website www.gcap.in .........BEST oF LUCK

27 September 2013 Hi Amulya,

Thankyou for your valuable suggestions. As per yor sugggestion, if i start padhuka's book for accounts then shall i buy recent edition or else shall i wait for new edition which will be publish after Nov,2013.....!!!!

27 September 2013 Accounting concepts or its contents wont be changed except additions of few recent examination questions..Better to start early and prepare yourself which does matter instead of waiting for new edition...

27 September 2013 Ok.

Don't mind for this type of stupid question, i.e; now am in initial stage to start or prepare for IPCC attempt. Am unable to read or concentrate more than one hour. I am getting lot of doubts and after feeling lazy, keeping books in desk and sleeping. Can u give me brief solution to concentrate more on studies without any second thought??

28 September 2013 Start with the topic you know well. Develop your knowledge gradually. If u study what you know little u will not feel sleepy.

28 September 2013 Thank You so much for valuable time and suggestions shared with me. I believe, it will helpful for me a lot.

28 September 2013 use thank you tab...

06 October 2013 Prepare a time table and abide by it. Include all the subjects so that every day you are in touch with them. Do not take one subject and finish and then take another. Make pointers while studying for your revision.

07 October 2013 Thank you for your valuable suggestion. I planned and prepared a perfect time-table as per my convenience and time availability. It will also cover each and every subject frequently. As am in job sector, unable to follow or implement in a proper way due to lack of concentration and stress factors. Am having lot of courage and passion to at least finish IPCC. Suggest me some good techniques to get concentrate on studies. Will power is there but getting lot of difficulties in self-learning. Major reason is work stress and laziness.
