14 October 2009 I want to denote the PAN database. Now suppose a PAN is ADOPM5655S, i want to denote it on the basis of the 4th caracter i.e "P" as individual Similarly suppose in case of a Company, it would be as "C" the fourth caracter. How can i do this by using the formula?

type commnd in B1 columns
=LEFT(RIGHT($A$1,7),1)
result = "P"

=IF(b1="P","IND",IF(b1="C","comp",IF(b1="a","AO",IF(b1="h","HUF",))))

15 October 2009 Ram, i am not getting the result. Can you please check? the moment i write the $then moving the cursor to A1, it's throwing an error message. Can you please check once again?
