An individual who was working in Mumbai and staying in a rented accomodation with spose and children. Now he has joined new company in Ahmedabad and staying alone in a rented accomodation. His family is staying in Mumbai in the same rented accomodation. Can he claim HRA exemption for two rented accomodations i.e. one in Mumbai where his family is staying and one in Ahmedabad where he is staying.

He stays at Ahmedabad for 5 days and stays 2 days in Mumbai. In this situation, which rent he can offer for HRA exemption.
Another thing, can he show rent only of Mumbai and not of Ahmedabad for HRA exemption.

Ahmedabad house is appropriate. Because the employer grants HRA to his employee in connection with his employment which is situated in Ahmedabad.
