It sounds like you're looking to re-enter the field of accountancy or resume your professional journey after a break. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get back on track:
### 1. Evaluate Your Current Knowledge and Skills
- **Assessment**: Start by assessing your current knowledge and skills in accounting and related fields. Consider what you remember from your studies and articleship. - **Update Knowledge**: Identify any changes or updates in accounting standards, tax laws (like GST), and auditing practices since you were last active.
### 2. Reconnect with Your Education and Experience
- **Review Study Materials**: If possible, review your old study materials from your IPCC (Integrated Professional Competence Course) to refresh your memory on accounting principles, financial reporting, auditing, and taxation. - **Articleship Experience**: Reflect on the two months of articleship you completed. Consider reaching out to your former employer for insights or recommendations.
### 3. Update Yourself with Current Regulations
- **GST and Other Regulations**: Since GST was introduced after your initial studies, familiarize yourself with Goods and Services Tax (GST) regulations and its impact on accounting practices in India.
### 4. Consider Continuing Professional Education (CPE)
- **Courses and Seminars**: Attend courses, seminars, or workshops to update your knowledge and earn Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits. Many professional bodies offer online courses that are flexible and convenient.
### 5. Networking and Professional Development
- **Network**: Connect with professionals in the field through LinkedIn, local accounting associations, or alumni networks. Networking can provide opportunities for mentorship, advice, and potential job leads. - **Join Professional Bodies**: Consider joining professional bodies like the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) or other relevant associations. They offer resources, support, and networking opportunities.
### 6. Job Search and Resumes
- **Update Your Resume**: Revise your resume to highlight your qualifications, articleship experience, and any recent courses or certifications. - **Job Search**: Start exploring job opportunities in accounting firms, corporate finance departments, or auditing firms. Use job portals, company websites, and networking contacts to find openings.
### 7. Stay Positive and Persistent
- **Stay Motivated**: Re-entering the workforce after a break can be challenging, but stay positive and persistent in your efforts. Upskill yourself continuously and be open to learning.
### Final Thoughts
Returning to your accounting career after a break is entirely possible with dedication and effort. Take it step by step, leverage your past experience and knowledge, update yourself on current practices, and network effectively. With perseverance and commitment to professional growth, you can successfully restart and advance in your accounting career.
