03 February 2011 Dear Sir/Madam,

An employee works in company and he stays in the rented house. He also own a house on which he is paying home loan.

The house which he owns is around 70 kms away from the place where he works.

The question is can he claim both HRA and Housing loan deduction.

Is there any limit on Kilometers that the house on which loan is there should be x kms away from the house on which rent is paid.

Please guide
Thanks in advance

03 February 2011 He can claim both HRA and deduction u/s 24(b)& 80C of Income Tax Act.

Generally there is no limit but sometimes ITO disallow the HRa exemption if one lives and own house in the same city

03 February 2011 Agree with expert. You have to prove that you live in rented house.
