27 August 2011 Sorry sir, my question is, i attempt paper 5, 6 and 7 in nov 11. And if i get more than 60% marks in any two papers and less than 40% marks in remaining paper then is there any rule or something that i would be declared pass in secong group? I heard there is something like exemption... what is this? And if i attempt second group and fail to pass it then would next attempt be counted as my second attempt (suppose im going for both goups this time)? Thanks

26 July 2024 To clarify the examination and exemption rules for CA exams, here’s a detailed breakdown based on the CA IPCC and CA Final examination systems:

### **Exemption and Passing Rules:**

1. **Exemption in Individual Subjects:**
- **Exemption Criteria:** In the CA examination system, if you score 60% or more in any individual subject, you are granted an exemption for that subject. This means you do not need to reappear for that subject in future attempts.
- **Validity of Exemption:** Exemptions are valid for up to three subsequent attempts, including the attempt in which you obtained the exemption.

2. **Attempting Papers with Exemption:**
- **Passing the Group:** To pass a group, you need to score the required aggregate marks and also clear all the subjects within the group. The exact aggregate percentage requirement and the number of subjects you need to clear may vary based on the specific exam regulations.

3. **Scenario Analysis:**
- **Case of Attempting Papers 5, 6, and 7:**
- If you score 60% or more in any two papers out of the three you attempted, those two subjects will have exemptions.
- If you score less than 40% in the remaining paper, you will not be exempted from it and will need to reattempt that paper in future attempts.
- **For the Group:**
- You will need to clear the remaining paper in addition to the exempted subjects to pass the group.
- If you fail to pass the group but have exemptions in two papers, you will still need to clear the remaining paper(s) to complete the group.

### **Next Attempt and Counting:**

- **Next Attempt:** If you attempt the remaining paper(s) in the next attempt (whether it is the same group or both groups), the attempt is counted as your subsequent attempt, not a fresh attempt.
- **Group-Wise Count:** Your total number of attempts will be counted based on the number of times you appeared for the group(s), regardless of the exemptions.

### **Summary:**

1. **Exemptions:** You receive exemptions for subjects where you score 60% or more. These exemptions are valid for up to three subsequent attempts.
2. **Passing Requirement:** To pass the group, you must clear all subjects in that group. Exemptions do not replace the requirement to clear all subjects.
3. **Attempt Count:** If you attempt both groups and do not pass, the next attempt will be counted as your subsequent attempt.
