While going through the Form 16 for FY 2013-14 issued by my employers, I found that they have erroneously shown a deduction of Rs. 80000/- under section 80 E from my taxable income which I never claimed at the time of submission of proof resulting in short deduction of tax of about Rs 16319/-. As I wish to disclose this amount of Rs. 80000/- and pay the tax, please advise how to do it without having to pay penalty and interest because my employers deducted and paid less tax.

sir, you can rework your Income computation according to your information and pay the difference tax as self assessment tax than file your return as per your revised working. but you have pay interest u/s 234B& 234C.

Thank you for your advise Mr. Kannan. Please suggest a way out for exemption from paying interest because it is not my fault that my employer wrongly computed my income and I wish to set it right by paying the tax which was not deducted by them

sir, one suggestion, if you have the copy of originally declared IT you can ask your employer to revise the return and re-issue of form 16, stating that the issue is in their part. in this case, the employer has to bear the interest. you can try.
