The inspecting officers take a statement as if given by you on a plain paper only. Once you have signed it is a valid evidence for further proceedings. You will be asked to pay vat on purchases made from unregistered dealers and also interest and penalty for not declaring in returns(you may appear before th said officer explain your problems and try to reduce the value interest and penlty)....mjk

dear sir, when the physical stock was verified with the stock register there is no mismatch in the stock, the officer said me on appearing that you have to pay penalty but on for what fault is not told, only i was told that we have information that your stock in the go down is from not the source you are showing its from somewhere else,i have no pending liabilities of tax, they only say you have to pay some penalty, and he told my accountant verbally not to sale the stock and said i wont allow the transaction of stock ion your premises if you don't pay penalty, is this right

You know what statement you have given to the inspecting officer. As you say if the actual stock is matching with the stock register, then there should be no problem. They can not stop you from doing any normal business.Just their saying that they have information that your stock has been purchased from some other source is not enough. They must show such evidence to you.No penalty is to be paid without establishing your offence and determining its quatity and value.Do'nt yeild to any oral threats and demands.A notice is to be issued and your appearance and reply are to be recorded. After completing all necessary proceedings only any penalty,if it is required, has to be paid. So,you do not worry and panic, continue your routine business....mjk

dear sir , the officer had orally said me to appear on 11th of Nov which i did there no paper proceedings were made, again he said me to appear on 12th November, he said to me that he will cease the stock and sent to review, this is the case with all the business men of my trade, this particular range office ceases out vehicle carrying goods while moving from the place of purchase to go-down, which are mostly from unregistered source, particularly farmers, they say that this purchase is not prove able and impose penalty, due to lack of knowledge about laws most of us do pay penalty, this is harassing us what can we do
