For assessment year 2009-10, I had earlier filed through online and received an acknoledgement as well. There was a refund due for around Rs. 30K. I misplaced the email and forgot that I had filed the returns.
While preparing this year's return, I filed for assessment year 2009-10 also without realizing that I had already done it earlier.
I am worried especially because there is a refund due and my mistake should not be considered as a consicous attempt to extract extra money from IT.
Any indicators to how I can correct this mistake will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Write a letter to the your ITO ward officer immediately stating that return has been filed twice and the second return filed by mistake should not be considered.
