what is the difference between exise duty and sales tax as they are paid together on the same amount? who are liable to pay them and when. i have seen both tax are added in the same sales invoice on the same amount at different rates.

Excise is on manufacture and removal and sales tax on sale or transfer of property. Therefore excise duty wouldbe charged on say 100 @8% total 108 wouldbe liable to sales tax @12.5% =13.50 .
