i want to know what is due date of income tax return filing and if i could not file return before due date then what is interest and penalty.

29 October 2010 Due date depends on status of asessee.

Penalty for late return - Rs. 5000.+ 1%p.m. interest.

if its individual 31st july or below the tax audit of a company, firm,etc

if it is above tax audit 30 september
for all

penalty will be 5000/- or 2 % on turnover
interest at 1@ on tax liability
