Does a Music Coaching school have to charge Service Tax?

05 April 2009 Dear Sir/Madam, I have started a school of Music and wish to know if I am supposed to charge service tax to my students and what would be the rate and any other cess if applicable? Also do I have to take into account the admission fees in addition to the monthly fees?

06 April 2009 Yes, if your receipts are more than Rs 10, 00,000, you have to charge service tax @10.3% (including Education cess w.e. f 24.02.2009). Further, you have to take admission fee also for payment of service tax.
