29 December 2015 Hi

It took me several attempts to clear my finals. Say, more than 4 years. So for 4 years i haven't been working much except for 6 months in an organization. I left because there was not much work, plus i started having anxiety issues. This was in 2012 end.

Again, i was doing nothing, just sitting at home and stsrted taking classes again, finally cleared the finals in 2014 Jan. In the mean time, i was also working for a contractual vacancy in one of the big 4s for 3 months. It ended in March.

So again, i was jobless. I got selected in a major banking organisation but they didn't give confirmation until September and that too in a remote area down south of India. But i was promised shortly else during the interview in April. . Anyway, i couldn't take it because my marriage was fixed and it didn't make sense to move out then.

So i got married 3 months back. The current situation is this :

1. My family and husband is supportive, so now i can take up a job anywhere in india. I'm open to opportunities.

2. Because of not being in the corporate area for a lot of time, I'm unaware of the new updates and new ways of working and it scars me now. Although I'm really good at learning, i get mind blocked if I'm not able to learn or if I'm wishing in an environment where you are discouraged everytime.

3. I'm going to be 30 next year and it's really bothering me that i havr done nothing in my life in terms of career. I have been ambitious and bright as a student and had very clear goals-long term and short term. But some tragic incidents occurred since years back which is also why it took me time to clear my exams and i was off focus. So it's really pinching me that a person like me... Is earning nothing and have made nothing in terms of career and money till now.

4. So, like i said i I'm going to bw past my 20s, i am sure the organisations will judge me big time and that's also making me nervous.

If you ask me what would i like to do, I'd go back to what i had set myself for - practice. But honestly, i have no idea now as to how to work. Like, how to do audits... The new methodologies etc. Plus I'm interested in Taxation. But i don't have any experience in it at all. Now, i can't expect anyone to spoon feed me. If i got into a firm where partners are willing to let me learn, maybe for a few months, i know i can transform myself and be so i always wanted to be.

I'm also open to jobs in industries... But i am not seeing much opportunities.

I really don't like the picture in in right now. But it makes me disappointed that even at this age, where everyone is settled, I'm still only starting to look at making a career.

I know the post is emotional... But this is the true story. Could someone pls guide me on how to go about from here and how my attitude should be.

Thank you.

29 December 2015 01.Tragedy is part of life and how we handle it solely depends upon us.
First and foremost, stop comparing yourself with your contemporaries. Your uniqueness to tragedy has pushed you down as compared to other 30 year of age CA. So stop comparing with them because now they are NOT comparable.
02. Accept the facts of life as early as possible. You are little advanced to M Com or MBA and little less than young CA. So may be a medium sized CA firm or industry would be a good place to settle down.
03. Taking several attempts for CA can always be looked upon as strengthening the base knowledge. You must have grown matured enough during those attempts. isn't it?
04. Last but not least, there is no any age for starting career. I know a CA who after doing job in Bank of Maharashtra for about 25 years, started practice from scratch.....He is 70+ now

29 December 2015 Thank you Mr. Joglekar for your comment..
I agree with you on how the attitude towards a situation is what matters most. I do agree. But although I'm not using it as my handicap. But nevertheless i cannot underestimate the damage it has done to my emotional stability as well as my career.

I have no doubts it has helped me grow and there is no denial to it. I'm much more evolved and mature in a broader way.

I totally agree with you that it's unreasonable on some grounds that i shouldn't be comparing myself with my peers... But it's natural that these things do come to the mind no matter how much we try.

The example you gave me about the person who started his practice at 70+ years is very encouraging. I'll keep that in mind.

All in all, thank you for the positive outlook. Gives me hope.

29 December 2015 Sure. You can always contact me for any such counselling answers or even for other matters. My e mail id is amolshankar@gmail.com

At this juncture, you need to look at the people who are below. Ours is a huge country. Few might be above you, but majority are below in many respect like knowledge, status, money and so on. Slowly but steadily move ahead. Change is the law of nature. These days will also pass by and you will find yourself in the world of what you always wanted to achieve. Wish you and your family a happy and prosperous new year.

You are most welcome.
