kindly can u tell me clearly about basic difference between merger, acquisition, joint venture and amalgamation. i am little bit confuse about above four terms

the term amalgamation is very wide. It includes amalgamation, absorption and reconstruction. the term merger is used interchangeably for amalgamation where two or more cos. blend together and at least one co. looses its identity. However, keep in mind amalgamation in the nature of merger and amalgamation in the nature of purchase is different from the terms used above. the term acquisition is used when the business of one entity is absorbed by another entity and the first mentioned entity ceases to exist. In case of Joint venture two or more entities invt. together in a project will defined share. they retain their own identity. Regards, Ca Shakuntala Chhangani
