Please advise, medical health check up expenses incurred, up to Rs 5000 for self and family are also allowed for deduction under section 80D. Is it part of this Rs 30000 limit or in addition to this?
Also for parents who are super senior citizen ( above 80 years of age), and not having medical health insurance, then medical expenses upto Rs 30000 can also be claimed under section 80 D. what is the definition of medical expenses? He takes medicines of about Rs. 3000 every month for his Diabetes, BP and Heart related ailment, can I claim these expenses?. please advise on this. Asscessee is Seniour citizen he has Paid insurance premium for his family and also paid medical exp for his parents(Super seniour citizen) on medicines . in this case how much amount claimed under u/s 80d. For financial year 2015-16 – Deduction is raised from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000. The deduction for senior citizens is raised from Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000. For uninsured super senior citizens (more than 80 years old) medical expenditure incurred up to Rs 30,000 shall be allowed as a deduction under section 80D. However, total deduction for health insurance premium and medical expenses for parents shall be limited to Rs 30,000.

Expenditure incurred on preventive health check up up to Rs. 5000/- will be included in overall limit of Rs. 30,000/- for senior citizen and his family. Therefore you will be entitled to deduction u/s 80D of Rs. 30000/- for self and family as senior citizen and for super senior citizen since no health insurance exists you will be entitled to deduction up to Rs. 30,000/-.
